Meet the team
Director - Store Manager
I started MR Cricket Hockey back in January 2012 with Paul and our shop dog Tilly!
I love seeing the business grow and develop in new areas such as hockey, team wear and school clothing since we started back in 2010. We now support over 130 sports clubs across the UK and 8 local schools.. My favourite days are school holidays and Saturdays when we get to meet customers and help them select the right equipment for them.
I have loved working with all the brands over the years, however, Gunn & Moore have been very innovative and provide a fantastic customer care team! Getting to know the Hockey brands has been exciting and I always enjoy seeing the new range from Dita and their equipment always offer great value for money.
Growing up Alex Tudor was my hero! I loved getting on the train with my mates and heading down to Oval to watch their star studded side perform (Stewart, Brown, Butcher, Bicknell etc). Being a bowler Darren Gough was also a personal favourite.
Launching our Help for Heroes cricket bat and grip with Joe Root at the Tower of London was an amazing experience. It took lots of work from many people including the team at Gunn and Moore. It was great to raise money for such a fantastic charity.
Assistant (to the) Manager
I worked in travel for over 15 years in both retail and airline but had the opportunity work with my brother and join MR Cricket Hockey in 2015.
The customers! Over the years we have built up some fantastic relationships. Our shop is a very relaxed space, which our customers return to year after year and it’s a real pleasure to be part of that.
I have enjoyed our relationships with all our brands, however Chase has been a firm favourite since working with them. Its great to work with a British brand who hand make their bats right here in the UK. In hockey we recently started stocking Osaka and I have to say their branding and products have provided a real breath of fresh air into the sport.
I have to confess I do not know many players, however, I did meet England's Sarah Taylor on a GM training course that we attended together. She was so lovely and a great advocate for the ladies game.
(and obviously Alastair Cook, but that goes without saying)
Despite growing up in a family of cricket lovers, I had minimal knowledge about the game before I started. I went on a GM training course within my first week and unbelievably came first place in the group exam, where we had to assess blank bats for weight, grade, profile and model.
Head of Cricket
After working in retail for three years I joined MR Cricket Hockey in March 2019.
I have always played sport and had an interest in sales so to work at MR Cricket Hockey is the perfect combination. We also have a great team so everyday is a great experience.
I have always loved Cricket and Newbery have been my favourite brand! It was my first bat and I love the Master 100 Retro range. There are lots of great Hockey brands but I always enjoy seeing the Kookaburra kit! Its always very popular and I love the designs of the sticks.
Growing up Paul Collingwood was my idol. He had so much determination to perform at the highest level.
We tested out the new Dimension Sport hockey machine in store. Tim decided it would be a great idea to put it onto full speed and ended up completely missing my stick and cracking my ankle! Thankfully Katie caught it on video so it can never be forgotten!
I joined MR Cricket Hockey back in February 2019 after finishing college.
I like being able to see how the cricket and sports industry works from within. I also enjoy seeing all the new kit early!
I have always used Chase bats and love how they are hand crafted here in the UK. The quality of the bats we receive are always top class and they are always my first recommendation, especially for juniors. Whilst I have never really played Hockey, I do really like the Grays hockey kit, the sticks are always innovative and the designs superb!
Being a bowler I cant look any further then England's greatest, Jimmy Anderson. The skills and adaptability he has shown to continue performing at the highest level is amazing to see.
Despite having an automatic gripping cone in store, Tim believes he is the fastest person to put a bat grip on using a standard Cone applicator! Come and test him out!
